HDMI cables not only that we use for connectivity, but also defining technology standard.

I wrote here some information about HDMI, compared to other types of transfer of video signals to provide a clearer picture of this standard in today's market place.

HDMI Forum recently announced that technology gets a new upgrade, which aims to introduce some long-awaited features by the community. The new standard is version 2.1 and brings a number of significant improvements.

One of the most important changes related to the new standard is the ability to view 8K resolutions at 60fps. If you just made the transition to 4K standard, you should not worry, on the contrary. That resolution also receives an upgrade, being able to run at 120fps.

If high resolution is to have any noticeable effect on the image, especially in case of small screens, it remains to be seen; currently, opinions are divided. And even if this would not be a major upgrade, then who will make the difference is the HDR.

The new specification, HDMI 2.1 offers support much higher for this technology, since it is compatible with Dynamic HDR, which is possible to change brightness, contrast and even color palette, depending on the scene, or even depending on the frame.

If these features are designed to improve image quality, the new standard audio brings changes in the plan. The Audio Return Channel (ARC) offers a simple solution for connecting a receiver audio-video on TV, and the latest version, eARC keeps this simplicity, however, provide support for the latest surround formats such as DTS: X or Dolby Vision, according digitaltrends.com.

Game Mode function VRR offers a refresh rate variable that transforms gameplay in a smoother experience, but can also reduce various problems encountered in video section.

Most of the new positions will require new cables, which have a bandwidth of up to 48Gbps, 8K with HDR video. Launching the new specification is expected in the second quarter of 2017 but it will probably take some to be implemented in the devices they buy.
